Si los teléfonos celulares son hoy moneda casi corriente y si hacen mucho más que tratar de comunicar a su dueño para hablar por teléfono con alguien más, un grupo de investigadores del Palo Alto Research Center (en Estados Unidos) acaban de dar un paso más hacia la omnipresencia móvil.

Pero no cual si fueran una moderna PDA (Personal Digital Assistant, algo así como una computadora de mano), sino con criterio propio y suficiente como para recomendarle a su dueño acciones concretas a seguir a lo largo de sus días cotidianos.
Todo está digitado, obviamente, por un software que es el corazón de esta habilidad de ser consejero del celular. El soft se llama Magitti, y toma toda la información de la que dispone sobre el usuario para permitirse indicar qué cosas puede hacer… o no.
Algunas de las cosas que tiene en cuenta a la hora de opinar es adónde se encuentra el usuario, qué recomendaciones le hizo el teléfono anteriormente y qué mensajes de texto (o SMS) recibió y mandó.
Todo empieza a funcionar desde el momento mismo en que la persona poseedora de tan hábil teléfono lo enciende y pone al descubierto su pantalla. Como previamente se ha instalado Magitti, el celular, de manera inmediata, empieza a hacer sus recomendaciones. Por caso, adónde ir a comer, según el lugar donde esté geográficamente la persona, y la disponibilidad de restaurantes y bares de la zona.
Pero la cosa no es solamente funcionar en base a un GPS o sistema de posicionamiento global. Eso no tendría demasiada novedad.
Lo particular del software que alimenta al teléfono es que cuanto más tiempo pasa con su dueño y más interactúa con él, más sabe y aprende sobre sus costumbres.
Con lo cual, sus consejos y recomendaciones se van amoldando a las necesidades y hábitos del usuario, con lo cual van variando según él mismo va cambiando y, por ende, acertando cada vez más.
Y todo esto, porque el software utiliza algoritmos de inteligencia artificial. Si el dueño del móvil quisiera comer en un restaurante barato, el software compararía la localización GPS de locales gastronómicos con precios convenientes al presupuesto de la persona, y recién después de eso haría su recomendación de lugar.
“Estamos tratando de lograr que el teléfono celular sea lo más parecido a un ser humano”, explica Victoria Bellotti, una de las científicas que participa del desarrollo. “Lo que buscamos es que en lugar de sólo atiborrar de cosas al usuario, trate de hacer inferencias acerca de qué actividad él disfrutará más.”
De acuerdo con Bellotti, el software se focaliza en cinco actividades diferentes: comer, comprar, ver, hacer y leer. Esencialmente, el soft aprende del usuario.
¿Qué es lo que él hace los viernes en la noche? ¿Qué tipo de restaurantes prefiere cuando está fuera de la ciudad? ¿Adónde le gusta más ir de compras los domingos? Se supone que Magitti hará sus sugerencias guiado por las respuestas del usuario a tales respuestas.
La herramienta fue desarrollada por los investigadores para la empresa japonesa Dai Nippon Printing, una empresa fundada en el año 1876 y especializada en impresión y tecnologías de la información.

No creo que resulte demasiado útil. Alguien más que te diga qué hacer, cuándo hacerlo…a mí, particularmente, me resulta un poco desagradable la idea, más allá de que tecnologicamente suponga un nuevo avance en los dispositivos móviles.

This is getting a bit more subjective, but I much prefer the Zune Marketplace. The interface is colorful, has more flair, and some cool features like ‘Mixview’ that let you quickly see related albums, songs, or other users related to what you’re listening to. Clicking on one of those will center on that item, and another set of “neighbors” will come into view, allowing you to navigate around exploring by similar artists, songs, or users. Speaking of users, the Zune “Social” is also great fun, letting you find others with shared tastes and becoming friends with them. You then can listen to a playlist created based on an amalgamation of what all your friends are listening to, which is also enjoyable. Those concerned with privacy will be relieved to know you can prevent the public from seeing your personal listening habits if you so choose.
