Una de las grandes novedades en este Mobile World Congress ha sido la disponibilidad de nuevos terminales que incorporan la prestación de Geotagging, una tecnología que nos permitirá etiquetar nuestras imágenes con una referencia al lugar donde han sido tomadas.
Gracias a la tecnología digital, cada vez se disponen de más imágenes para compartir con familiares y amigos, o en comunidades online. Cuando las cámaras de alta resolución pasaron a ser una función extendida en los dispositivos móviles, esta tendencia se vio todavía más incrementada. Con la mayor velocidad de transmisión de datos a través de redes WLAN ó HSDPA, la tarea de compartir imágenes directamente desde el móvil – y sin usar ningún PC – es aún más inmediata. Hoy en día, se pueden compartir imágenes de un concierto, unas vacaciones o una tarde de compras, de forma instantánea, incluso antes de que el acontecimiento haya finalizado.
Con la presentación de la nueva gama de dispositivos móviles que combinan las más recientes funciones fotográficas, junto con la tecnología A-GPS integrado en el propio terminal, Nokia da un paso más hacia la convergencia total.
Las imágenes tomadas con dispositivos como el Nokia N78, pueden incorporar de forma automática, metadatos con información geográfica. Es lo que se llama “geotagging”. Estos metadatos incluirán entonces referencias de latitud y longitud y, una vez activada esta función en la configuración del dispositivo, las coordenadas del GPS se almacenarán automáticamente en cada fotografía. Cuando los usuarios envíen dichas fotos a una comunidad Web como Share on Ovi, Flickr ó Google Earth, podrán visualizar la imagen situada automáticamente sobre el mapa.
Una vez compartidas las fotos, ya pueden verlas los familiares o amigos, algo mucho más inmediato que enviar una postal por correo.
Con la presentación de los nuevos dispositivos móviles que incluyen cámara digital, tecnología A-GPS y la novedosa función de geotagging, se dejan atrás los complicados métodos de sincronización entre una cámara independiente y un dispositivo GPS.
Además, la organización de las imágenes es automática y muy sencilla, facilitando el archivo, almacenamiento y envío de las mismas.
El geotagging puede ayudar a encontrar una amplia variedad de información online relativa a la localización geográfica, introduciendo las coordenadas de latitud y longitud en un motor de búsqueda de imágenes que cuente con esta función. También es posible utilizar los servicios de datos con geotagging para localizar sitios Web o noticias basados en localización.
