El nuevo equipo de la familia Edge es un avanzado GPS para ciclistas cuyo diseño y completas prestaciones han sido desarrollados en base a los consejos del equipo Garmin-Slipstream, patrocinado por la firma.
La firma ha centrado sus esfuerzos en el desarrollo de un nuevo dispositivo cuyo diseño y novedosas funciones están basadas en los consejos recibidos por el equipo ciclista que patrocina la compañía, Garmin-Slipstream. Este modelo destaca, entre otras cuestiones, por su ligereza, ya que su peso no supera los 60 gramos, y por integrar un GPS de alta sensibilidad que no requiere calibración, pudiendo instalarlo y cambiarlo con rapidez en cualquier bicicleta.
Edge 500 dispone de un avanzado sistema de medición que proporciona a los deportistas la posibilidad de supervisar su posición GPS con precisión, así como de controlar la velocidad, la distancia, el tiempo, el ritmo cardíaco (con pulsómetro), la cadencia de pedaleo (con sensor de cadencia), la altitud y la pendiente. Asimismo, a través de su altímetro barométrico, los datos de altitud se pueden combinar con los parámetros de velocidad, cadencia y ritmo cardíaco para el posterior análisis de la carrera.
Igualmente, gracias a la tecnología ANT+Sport, es compatible con medidores de potencia de tercera generación de otras marcas para un análisis más exhaustivo de la carrera, además de con los monitores de frecuencia cardíaca de Garmin, que proporcionan datos sobre las pulsaciones para calcular el número de calorías quemadas en cada carrera.
Entrenamientos completos
Edge 500 también destaca por su diseño robusto y por ser resistente al agua, cumpliendo el estándar IPX7. Asimismo, dispone de una pantalla TFT de 1,7 pulgadas, tecnología HotFix para captar la señal satelital con mayor precisión, lectura de la temperatura ambiente y cambios horarios según la zona por la que se transite.
Y gracias a su función Virtual Partner, es posible competir contra un compañero virtual, comparar los datos reales en función de los objetivos marcados y medir el progreso respecto a entrenamientos anteriores.
Almacenar y compartir
Por otro lado, una vez finalizados los entrenamientos o la carrera, Edge 500 se puede conectar mediante su cable USB a un ordenador para descargar los datos almacenados sobre los diferentes parámetros (ritmos vitales, cadencia, velocidad…) y, a continuación, revisarlos, compararlos con otros anteriores o compartirlos.
Todo ello a través de Garmin Connect, una comunidad online en la que los usuarios pueden guardar sus rutas y actividades, además de comentarlas (www.connect.garmin.com), e, incluso, visualizarlas en Google Earth.
