La japonesa JVC, en dificultades financieras, y su compatriota Kenwood anunciaron este lunes que planean fusionarse el próximo 1 de octubre, en la última maniobra de la industria electrónica, que trata de salir al paso de una feroz guerra de precios.

JVC, creador del primer televisor japonés y pionero de los aparatos de vídeo VHS, se enfrenta ahora a un mercado electrónico cada vez más competitivo. En abril, anunció que abandonaría toda su producción interna de pantallas planas.
“En la industria electrónica de consumo, la competencia global por el mercado y por los precios es ahora más feroz”, indicó la firma en un comunicado. JVC y Kenwood “concluyeron que una reestructuración de las empresas audiovisuales niponas será inevitable para sobrevivir en un mercado extremadamente competitivo“, según la nota.
El presidente de JVC, Kunihiko Sato, ocupará el mismo cargo en la nueva compañía, que llevará el nombre de JVC Kenwood Holdings, mientras que el presidente de Kenwood, Haruo Kawahara, asumirá un puesto equivalente.
Otros fabricantes japoneses de electrónica también han tratado de ajustarse a las nuevas condiciones del mercado, donde coexisten tanto rivales internos como extranjeros, procedentes en particular de Corea del Sur y Taiwán.
JVC anunció en abril unas pérdidas netas de 460 millones de dólares en su último año fiscal, hasta marzo de 2008.
